Karnevol is a big event in our winter calendar.Each year Jure Karnevol is put on trial for all his crimes – basically, everything that has gone wrong over the past year. This year’s hot topic is obviously the spread of the Corona virus, and we must all feel much safer with the burning of Jure. Lots of Vrboskans turned out in style, with some rather inventive costumes – and that’s not just the kids! My favourite was the old peasant woman dressed all in black carrying branches on her back – great character and her broken teeth were really horrific! We also had a hazmat team, who would spray us from time to time. It was all great fun, with music and dancing, food and drink. At the end of which, Jure was placed in a wheelbarrow and paraded around before being hanged and burned. Vrboska is now safe from evil spirits! Here’s some of the highlights from Karnevol 2020…
