Rumblings under the Adriatic

Yesterday’s 4.7 earthquake near Vrgorac was heard more than felt in our part of Hvar. The epicentre was about 50 kilometres from here, close to the mainland, just south of Hvar’s eastern tip. I’m sure they would have felt rather more of a jolt in Sučuraj. For us, in the supermarket in Vrboska, it sounded like a large heavy truck rumbling past. Except that, of course, you simply don’t get such things along our quiet little waterfront! Nobody else in the shop seemed to notice anything amiss, and I wasn’t entirely sure until we got home and looked it up on the internet.

The European Mediterranean Seisological Centre website has the details, including the above handy map.
